The Recovering Perfectionist

Someone recently asked me how to start blogging. A few years ago my reply would have been to research SEO, plug in’s, blogging platforms, and so on.

Today my answer is set up an account on WordPress and write regularly. It doesn’t matter if it is once or twice a week or daily. Commit. Start. Write consistently. Be authentic. Figure it out as you go. SEO. Plug-In’s. Blog challenges. Keyword searches. Graphics.

Since I started my business, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that done is better than perfect. It took a bit for me to swallow that, to absorb it, and now to believe it. It hurts sometimes. To change. To allow myself to do something in public that may not be perfect. To proof my blog only twice instead of a dozen times.

But I do. Okay, okay. so actually I am down to proofing my posts just six times. That’s progress!

What have you always wanted to do? Do it now, and stop expecting yourself to be perfect or as good as someone who has done it for years. Just start.

Oh my, day 18 of the Blog Challenge and I’m just running into you. And that’s good! LOVE your post. Your thoughts are so true. Sometimes it is better to just get out there and do it instead of planning it to pieces. I jumped into my business and 3.5 years later, I’m so glad I did. Great advice for all of us, any day of the week.

Hi Catherine. Great advice. I’m getting started with blogging, and I know I’ll blog more if I just do it rather than trying to get it perfect.

Great advice. I struggle with “perfectionism” every day. But you’re right, getting a job done well is better than never getting a job done because it’s not perfect.

I love this. Im a fan of imperfect action over perfect planning. I always procrastinate over the planning part and overthink so much.
Now I try to just get in do it and fix it up where I can and improve as I learn. Better to do it, than not do it because your afraid you wont do it right
