Until It Doesn’t
I’d like to be some sort of super woman who doesn’t have to ask anyone else for help. Sound familiar?
Do you hate asking for help too?
Running a business is like its own personal growth program. To succeed, I need to continue to learn, grow, and do things that make me uncomfortable.
We needed to understand why they chose my company for customized communication and leadership training or strategic planning sessions. We needed to appreciate their experience –what we did well and how we could become better at serving their needs.
Sounds good, right?
Until the part came where I had to ask new and long-standing clients for a favour to help me. Hayley needed to ask each client a series of questions. Without their input, the whole plan for my business could go down the wrong road.
But there’s some voice in my head wondering if I’m bothering people.
This is where Hayley brought logic back to the conversation. This research was helping me and helping me serve my clients in possibly better ways. And my clients usually become my friends. We tend to laugh a lot and get great work done too, so why was I so uncomfortable?
I sent the email requests to clients, and within one day, clients said things like, “Of course!!!! Let’s do it!” and “Anything to help.”
Yes, not needing anyone’s help would be great. But we’re human and being willing to grow means asking for help.
And I bet someone would be happy to help you.
Who are you going to ask for help at home or work this week? What’s stopping you? Is it all in your head? Go for it.
